Dropping this here should I ever find myself in a position to lead others: https://www.annashipman.co.uk/jfdi/meeting-everyone.html.

The employee testaments really stuck out to me:

You are a very busy person who I wouldn’t ever work with directly so it was good to feel that you knew I existed

Mostly being a part of small companies, I don't relate to this one too much. But, I can imagine how shitty it feels to not feel acknowledged. I suppose having a good manager or immediate superior can remedy this

If we didn’t do the 1:1, the answer of the question below “Do you feel able to raise issues with me?” would be “No”

This is something I always appreciate about my leaders at work. They truly make an effort to do the 1:1's and make sure we're heard (as much as we are willing to share anyways).

Raising issues can be difficult and scary so it’s important to know if the person you are raising them to is receptive

I think this is an even bigger key point. Just because there are channels in place to facilitate communication, it's incredibly easy to become discouraged if the recipients aren't receptive

It really showed that you cared about us as humans, and how we fit with the rest of the team

Treating other people as humans... always good

One more note from HN:

One of the questions I asked was 'who do you go to for advice and bouncing ideas off'. This gave me a great view of the key knowledge nexus points and how people are connected to each other in the team.

What a great question. I hope I can use this one in the future.
